Row row row your boat… gently towards the lake festival!

The weather is warming, the days are getting longer, the air is getting sweeter – Spring and Summer are here! It’s finally time for swimming costumes, short dresses and… a series of events on Lake Iseo. I personally enjoy a day that ends with a full belly, so read on to hear about this month’s culinary events. I can’t wait - can you?
Most notable are the Festival of the Lakes and Girolio, two cultural celebrations, both with strong culinary overtones and plenty of tastings.

The Festival of the Lakes is a journey of colours, traditions and fragrances that takes place on the lakefront and in the side streets of Iseo. Local food producers, wine makers and enthusiasts gather to display and experience a sample of what the featured lakes have to offer.

As a keen traveller I am fascinated by the food and wine of each place I visit. I am always on the lookout for something typical of the area I’m in rather than ending up in generic restaurants with no character of their own. I would dream of finding a festival like this.

Why not bookmark this rest place for a weekend on the lake? Get ready for two breath-taking days where you will be transported from one lake to another, a few short steps at a time.

The display market is multifaceted. It is a tasting of typical products, cultural and traditional exhibitions related to concerts, debates, art exhibitions and folkloric performances affected by the lake landscape.

There is a spectacular programme waiting for you from 26th to 28th May 2017, which would be a great idea for a relaxing walk on the lakeshore or a visit to the inland of the Iseo area. If you are an art lover, I recommend the exhibition at the Arsenal Palace, while the cultural aspect of the Sant'Andrea's church is a great experience. For those who prefer nature, you can enjoy a relaxing afternoon in the Torbiere Nature Reserve. To stay updated on the program CLICK HERE

Staying on the theme of food and wine, the yearly Girolio tour, promoted by the Italian Association of Cities of Oil, celebrates the knowledge and culture of extra virgin olive oil, which is expanding even on the Brescia shores of Lake Iseo. Oil has always been the perfect seasoning for every dish, given its taste to calorie ratio - it makes me crazy! I eat it with bread, I use it to prepare succulent sauces with tomatoes and tuna, and on salads. Oil can be used in countless ways and is never missing from a quality restaurant’s table.

I recommend this month’s Girolio cruises for all oil lovers. It will take place on the 27th and 28th, leaving from the Iseo Port. The cruise will make several stops including Monteisola for a visit to the mill and Marone for a bread tasting and oil E.V.O. This promises to be a real success given that the village is dubbed the City of the Oil.
